Spaced repetition
Review queues resurface exactly what you're about to forget, right before you forget it.
Speech recognition
Language courses listen back — practice pronunciation out loud, not just multiple choice.

Hearts, streaks, and achievements keep a daily habit fun instead of a chore.
Synced everywhere
Email/password auth syncs progress across web, iOS, and macOS in real time.

Five ways to practise

Play this lesson →
A Lexly matching-pairs exercise in a Spanish lesson

Translate

Pick the right translation, or say it out loud — language courses accept your voice as the answer.

Word bank

Build the sentence from scattered words, with decoys mixed in so word order actually has to be right.

Fill in the blank

One word removed from a real sentence. Tests the word in context instead of on a flashcard.

Matching pairs

Tap four sentences to their translations. Fast, and it catches the ones you only half know.

Listening

Type what you hear, spoken in the course's own language. Replay it as many times as you need.
Where the sentences come from

Written by people, not generated

Language exercises are built from the Tatoeba Project, an open collection of sentences written and translated by volunteers since 2006. Lessons are ordered by how common the vocabulary actually is, so the first unit teaches words you will genuinely hear. Tatoeba is licensed CC-BY 2.0 FR and is credited in full.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. Every course and every exercise is free, on all three platforms.

Do I need an account?

You can play a demo lesson without one. Saving your streak and review queue across devices needs an account.

How does review work?

A real SM-2 spaced-repetition schedule. Each exercise gets its own interval that stretches as you keep getting it right, and resets when you don't.

Is the source available?

All of it. Lexly is MIT licensed and the full repository, including the course generator, is on GitHub.

Install it anywhere.

Lexly runs on every platform. On Windows, Linux and Android it installs straight from the browser — no store, no download, no runtime. It gets a real window, its own icon, and keeps working offline.

iPhone & iPad

A native app, not a wrapped web page.

App Store →

Mac

Native, universal binary. Runs on Apple silicon and Intel.

App Store →

Windows

Open the web app in Edge or Chrome, then Install Lexly from the address bar. It lands in the Start Menu like any other app.

Open & install →

Android

Open the web app in Chrome, then Add to Home screen. Full screen, no browser chrome, works offline.

Open & install →

Linux

Same as Windows — install the web app from Chrome or Chromium and it runs in its own window.

Open & install →

Web

Nothing to install. The same app, in any modern browser.
